Storms Damage Homes in Meigs County
Several communities in our viewing area were hit by powerful thunderstorms Saturday night.
NewsChannel 9 spent Sunday afternoon surveying the damage in Meigs County.
Mitch Vincent, who lives in Decatur, lost seven trees, one of them landed on his garage.
Fortunately, his family was not home during the storm, they arrived shortly after and the damage was done.
"We couldn't get into the subdivision because of trees across the road," said Vincent.
To clean-up the fallen trees will cost $4,500, and that does not cover the garage damage.
All of this damage was caused by a storm that was not even considered severe.
For a storm to be considered severe winds must be more than 58 miles per hour, or there is hail larger than 1 inch, or the size of a quarter.
