Police Charge Two Men with Robbing Two Downtown Chattanooga Businesses
Chattanooga police have two men in custody in connection with several robberies that happened in downtown Chattanooga early Tuesday morning.
Police say a suspect walked into the lobby of the Courtyard by Marriott on Chestnut Street, pulled out a handgun and demanded cash. The clerk was unable to open the register and the suspect ran off, getting into a car driven by the second suspect.
About 20 minutes later, a second robbery happened at the McDonald's on East 3rd Street, just down the street from Erlanger Hospital. Police say the suspect from the robbery at the Courtyard by Marriott walked in, pulled out a handgun and demanded cash. This time the clerk handed over an undisclosed amount of money, and the suspect again drove off.
Moments later, patrol Officers spotted the suspects in a silver/dark colored Buick and chased after them. They were eventually able to corner them in a parking lot where officers arrested them without any trouble.
27-year-old Rodrick Smith and 37-year-old Kevin Perkins are charged with Attempted Aggravated Robbery and Criminal Conspiracy for the Marriott Hotel robbery, and Aggravated Robbery, Criminal Conspiracy and Felony Evading for the McDonald's robbery.
