Deadly Accident Near Dayton Walmart
A serious accident involving a tractor-trailer and a car near the Dayton Walmart on Highway 27.
Authorities tell NewsChannel 9 that 90-year-old Gill Kyle died in the car that collided with the 18-wheeler.
Kyle's wife, Anna, who was also in the car, was taken to the hospital, where she later died.
The accident happened shortly after 10 a.m.
Police say the driver of the car was making a left turn into the WalMart on Highway 27. The truck was traveling in the opposite direction. Police say the truck driver's name is Frederick Barrett.
The Kyle's were huge supporters of the annual strawberry festival. They also organized Gospel night for singers every Thursday at the McDonalds on Highway 27 in Dayton.
Iris Davis knows the couple well. She says, "I'm devastated, I'm really devastated, it just breaks my heart because they were so vital to the community."
The Dayton Police Department, the Rhea County Sheriff's Department, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol all worked the accident. No charges have been filed.
