SPLOST Tax on the Walker Ballot
Voters in Walker County will make a decision in a contested issue next Tuesday at the polls -- the SPLOST tax.
Almost $20M worth of capital projects spread over the next six years are at stake.
The special purpose local option sales tax is a once cent sales tax.
It's already on the books.
The vote is to keep or lose the tax.
The money goes to projects like sheriff's deputy cars, jail upkeep, roads and bridges.
One opponent says Walker County Sole Commissioner Bebe Heiskell hasn't managed the county's money well.
Supporters say keeping the tax would prevent a property tax hike.
Election day is Tuesday, November 5.
