Teen Charged with Setting Church on Fire
Authorities in Whitfield County have arrested an 18-year-old in connection with a fire three months ago at the Beaverdale Baptist Church.
The building that stood on the same spot on Beaverdale Road since 1900 was deliberately set on fire in the early morning hours of March 21st.
The fire caused extensive damage to the building.
On April 16, 2014, at about 11:15pm the 911 Center received another call advising the old church building was on fire again.
The Fire Department responded but the structure was a total loss.
The second fire was also suspected to have been deliberately set.
There was no electricity to the building at the time of the fires; it was being used for storage by the church.
Detectives got a tip that a teenager living close to the church was the person behind both fires. They later located evidence linking Jacob Dylan Plott to both crimes.
Police arrested Plott on Thursday and charged him with two counts of arson.
Police say there may be more arrests in this case soon.
