The State of Tennessee has unveiled a new website called "Transparent Tennessee," designed to pul back the veil on public information.
Would you like to know how much a particular state employee is paid?
You can find it (with a few exceptions) at tn.gov/opengov
For instance Kevin Huffman
, the Commissioner of the Tenn. Dept. of Education makes $211,404 a year.
In announcing the new overhauled website, Gov. Bill Haslam said it offers more user-friendly information online to Tennessee taxpayers.
The site includes a searchable checkbook with more interactive data related to state agency expenses, vendor payments and travel reimbursements.
“A state government that is accountable to Tennessee taxpayers is an important part of being customer-focused, efficient and effective,” Haslam said. “The advanced function of this website will allow citizens more access to information about how state dollars are spent.”
The site has a public opportunities section that links to public meetings, open records information and a page for feedback.
Visitors to the website will also see quick links to state audits and the state salary database.
