Busy roads and rushed travelers can equal trouble on the roadways.
So Tennessee State Troopers are kicking it into high gear and stepping up law enforcement.
It's Trooper William Collins' job to keep you safe on Tennesse's roadways. It's also a job he takes very seriously.
"I think it's important for us to be seen. Let people know we're out here," says Collins.
According to the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, nine people were killed in 6 crashes on Tennessee's roadways during the holiday season last year. So we jumped in the car and went for a ride with Collins to see how enforcement is being put into action. It only took us about 20 minutes to find our first speeding offender.
But after a quick check of license, registration and insurance, the driver got off with a warning.
"She had a valid drivers license, valid registration, valid insurance. I just stressed it's the holiday, a lot of people got other things on their mind, and just to slow down. She did have her seatbelt on," says Collins.
But not everyone may be as lucky.
"A lot of people don't see what we see. Investigating these crashes, we see the bad end of it. People don't understand,"says Collins.
The increased enforcement will continue until midnight Tuesday. But until then, expect to see officers just about everywhere.
