An investigation is underway in Catoosa County after church members discovered Sunday that someone stole one of their trailers filled with expensive equipment.
Two trailers used to sit in the Catoosa Colonade parking lot for about 2 and a half years before one was stolen over the weekend. Pastor Danny Eiler, of The Springs Church, said it's shocking to think people would steal from a church.
"I'm not sure where the people are who are in that kind of a place who would have to steal, not only from a church but from anywhere," said Eiler. "To be able to do whatever they're doing, at that point, I started to feel concerned for those kinds of people."
About 75 people usually gather around a stage inside the Catoosa Colonade every Sunday. Inside the stolen trailer was about $25,000 worth of equipment, including microphones, lighting sets, sound equipment and more.
Eiler said as a mobile church, they don't bring in much money and couldn't afford insurance on the church's trailers.
"Insurance was really, really expensive. You had to keep it at a certain place to be able to insure it at all, and it was just a thing that a mobile church getting started. It was unaffordable for us," said Eiler.
There are no security cameras at the Colonade, but church members and some Colonade workers said they believe the trailer was stolen overnight Saturday. Eiler said he forgives whoever took it.
Churches in Atlanta and New Hampshire are a few that are stepping in to help out, Eiler said.
Eiler said they filed a report with the Catoosa County Sheriff's Office Sunday. The trailer has the church's name and logo on one side. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Catoosa County Sheriff's Office at (706) 935-2424.By Briona Arradondo
