Tree Comes Down During Dalton Family's Breakfast
Roads in Dalton were covered in snow early Wednesday morning, and several back roads closed. But when a family called the Dalton Fire Department for help, they arrived in minutes.
The Tatum's were enjoying breakfast Wednesday morning when their power suddenly went out, and they got a whiff of smoke.
"A tree fell on the wire. There was a big spark, and all the power went out. Then the basement filled up with smoke," said Joshua Tatum. "We grabbed our stuff got the rest of the family. Called 911, and went outside."
Dalton fire officials said the tree was probably rotting, and the weight from the snow added extra stress.
"As the trees get weight on them with the snow, they're gonna get heavy, and any of those that were already compromised, are gonna go down," said Deputy Chief Gary Baggett.
Everyone was safe, but the fire department did say they will be seeing more incidents like this over the next few days.
