Witnesses Warn of Possible Sex Criminal at Riverview Park
Users of a park in North Chattanooga park are warning others that a man seen in that area may be a sex criminal. Two reports were made Monday, and while police have not connected them, on the surface they appear similar.
One of the reports was phoned into 911 by a mother playing at the park with her two children Monday morning. She tells Newschannel 9 she watched a man go into the restroom at Riverview Park and noticed that he stayed inside for an unusually long time. That mother asked another man to go into the bathroom to check, and that man says he saw the suspect masturbating while watching out a window.
Ryan Bowman tells Newschannel 9 that he was furious at what he saw.
Bowman says he shouted at the man, who left the bathroom and quickly walked away.
The mother originally told Newschannel 9 she called 911 Monday afternoon, but Chattanooga police say that call and at least one more was made around 11 a.m.
The two witnesses interviewed by Newschannel 9 say the suspect was a short, heavy, bald African-American man with thick facial hair and a chubby face.
Late this afternoon, the C-P-D released a statement with this account:
“Police were dispatched on a black male, bald, wearing a blue shirt and tan shorts who was in the area with his penis in his hand. Since both calls indicated that the subject was on foot traveling down Barton Ave the Police checked the area and the surrounding areas and could not locate the suspect.”
Depend on us to pass along more details as we get them.
