New Mayors Elected in Several N.Ga Towns

Lookout Mountain, Lyerly, Trion have new leaders

After low turnout across the North Georgia area for the off year election, there are new leaders in several small towns.

Lookout Mountain, Georgia Mayor Tom Gifford lost in a rematch of the 2005 mayor race to challenger Bill Glascock.  Glascock previously served on the city council.  He won with 57 percent of the votes.

Lyerly's current mayor decided not to seek re-election which opened the door for Jessica Eller to beat councilperson Deborah Jones.

In Trion, flood waters disrupted the voting process slightly but Johnny Ingle did defeat current mayor Buddy Perry.

Mayors in Cohutta, LaFayette, and Varnell retained their spots.

OTHER RESULTS

Chatsworth Post 1 Alderman Margaret Adams was soundly defeated.  There will be two new faces on the Fort Oglethorpe Council.  Ward 2 Councilman Howard Silcox lost to challenger Earl Gray and Ward 5 Councilman Steve Brandon lost to Eddie Stinnett.

Kenneth Maples will be the new city court judge in LaFayette after beating Incumbent Barry Hollis.  Lookout Mountain will have a new face of Blair Ramey after getting enough votes to beat current council member Dennis Eischeid.

In Summerville, Kevin Gilliland will join the council after defeating incumbent Betty Bush.  Trion will also have two new faces as Don Harris and Lanny Thomas won over Chris Woods and Bobby Ward respectively.

Varnell will see James Caldwell and Brent Newsome join the city council after they beat Seat 1 incumbent Carlus Mosier and Harveyleen Rollins respectively.
