A developing story this evening out of Whitfield County where a train has derailed.

It happened earlier this evening off Old Chattanooga Road in Rocky Face.

Officials at CSX say the train was traveling from Hamlet, North Carolina to Nashville, when 10 cars went off their track.

6 of those cars were carrying cottonseed, 3 cars were empty, and 1 car was a flat load of lumber.

Investigators are on scene trying to figure out what led to the accident.

Access to the scene was restricted, but witnesses on scene were able to show us cell phone pictures they were able to get of the crash.

Manuel Lopez saw it happen from his back porch. "All of the sudden I hear this train and we saw it flip, and we saw all the smoke just coming up."
