Double Murder Suspect in Custody
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Phu Thien Tran, a.k.a. Tony Tran, is in custody, accused of a weekend murder in Catoosa County, Ga.
Sheriff Phil Summers tells NewsChannel9.com that Tran turned himeself in at a police station in the Manor Township near Lancaster, Penn. at 1:12 pm today. The sheriff said Tran was accompanied by a relative when he arrived at the police station. He is being held on a Fugitive Warrant, awaiting extradition.
It was 10:35 Saturday night when Catoosa County 911 received a call of a shooting at 12 Copper Lane in Lakeview, in the Lynwood Subdivision.
Deputies found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
A 13-year-old with a gunshot wound in the side was rushed to the hospital, and later pronounced dead.
The other victim, a 17-year old identified as Toby Thaboua, of 284 Hillsboro Road, Rossville, was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head.
A thrid man, Rick Nguyen from California, arrived at Erlanger suffering from three gunshot wounds and said he had been walking in the Lynwood Subdivision area and was a victim of a drive-by style shooting.
Investigatiors determined that three people went to the home to collect a debt. The three individuals were identified as Phu Thien Tran, a.k.a. Tony Tran, Ricky Nguyen, and Shawn Hanson.
The two victims and several other people were in the yard when the three men arrived.
An argument between Tony Tran and Toby Thaboua led to a scuffle that turned into a large-scale fight.
According to witness statements, Tony Tran began firing a handgun and fired several shots as people fled on foot.
Tran is accused of wounding his own friend, Ricky Nguyen.
Most of the people ran inside the home. Investigators say Tran reloaded his 9 MM, high-capacity handgun and fired approximately 30 shots into the house, striking the two victims as they fled from the gun fire.
