Tree Crashes Down on Roof
Comments 0A family is awakened overnight when a tree comes crashing onto the roof of their home.
It happened around midnight in the 2400 block of Hamill Road. Fortunately no one inside was hurt when the oak tree, a couple of feet thick and weighing about 40,000 pounds, crashed into the roof.
Tree removal crews arriving on the scene told the homeowner it wasn't safe to spend the rest of the night there. That worker tells us in his opinion the house will likely need a new roof, at the very least.
There is still no official damage estimate. It took two cranes to stabilize the tree and lift it off the roof, a job that took about four hours. Crews will be back later in the day to remove what's left of the tree.
There's till no official word on what caused the tree to topple, but there is a possibility that Monday's heavy rains had something to do with it.
