Land Trust Gives Chattanooga 37 Acres for Park

A land trust has donated a wooded tract atop Stringer's Ridge to keep it undeveloped for use as a park that overlooks downtown Chattanooga.

Trust for Public Land director Rick Wood said he envisions a series of trails, some for hikers, some for mountain bikers and some for trailer runners.

Wood told the Chattanooga Times Free Press that the trust last week handed over 37 acres to the city be used as an urban natural park.

He said the next step is getting people there.

The trust raised $2.4 million to acquire 91 acres.

Wood said the Tennessee River Gorge Trust holds a conservation easement on all the property to make sure it is kept undeveloped and publicly accessible.

Wood said the park will be open by this fall.
