Snow Blankets Some of the Tennessee Valley

    Comments 0 | Recommend 0

The Thanksgiving holiday has been extended for thousands of students around the area. As predicted, snow fell in the higher elevations on Monday morning and throughout much of the day. The snow did close several schools systems Monday, including Bledsoe County. That's where we found both kids and adults enjoying the first real flakes this winter.

Ethan and Morgan Hatmaker were using box to build up a snowman in the driveway. They said they were really happy to have teh day off from school.

Even though schools were closed, most businesses were open, and owners at this Christmas tree farm say they hope the flurries will get people in the holiday spirit even sooner. Lisa Roberson says, "Absolutely, we sell more Christmas trees when it's snowing."

Roberson and her mother were busy getting their trees ready during this early winter weather. Betty Richardson says, "Everything's just really pretty right now."

Her daughter added, "It is a little early, but I have seen it snow by the first of October, but here lately we haven't had that much snow, so I'm hoping we'll get back to having some actual snow in winter time."

Both say this snow was a bit sooner than expected, just 3 days after Thanksgiving. But hope it means a frosty forecast for the next few days and months. Richardson said, "Might not have to go to work tomorrow!"

Fortunately, the roads remained mostly clear and the counties that shut down schools reported no major accidents or problems. So it was simply a snowy day, with a beautiful scene.
