Red Bank - UA Football Player Victor Ellis Dies
Former standout Red Bank football player Victor Ellis, 28, died Tuesday night following a battle with a rare form of cancer.
Ellis graduated from Red Bank in 1998 and went on to play linebacker for the University of Alabama.
He graduated and then went to work as an Admissions Counselor for UA. "He's the type of person who never met a stranger. He is caring and kind," said Mary Spiegel, executive director of undergraduate admissions.
He was diagnosed with cancer last summer. Ellis is one of 50 people known to have ever been diagnosed with this form of cancer. A case study done by four doctors at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn reported the tumor is found almost exclusively in young black patients with the sickle cell anemia trait.
Former teammates and supporters from Red Bank and UA gathered for various fundraisers on behalf of Ellis.
No word yet on funeral arrangments for Ellis.
