McBrien Elementary Closed Friday - Teachers Report
Unclear if missed days will have to be ''made up,'' or not?
McBrien Elementary students should NOT report to class on Friday, according to school spokesperson Danielle Clark.
However the principal of McBrien Elementary says that faculty and staff should report to school at regular hours on Friday.
There was flash flooding in the East Ridge area overnight Thursday. Clark says this quick onset of water leaked into McBrien and left about one inch of standing water in some areas.
Clark says right now they are not sure if students will have to make up the missed days or not.
"We are working with the state on that very question," said Clark. "There is the possibility that the students will need to make them up, but we are checking with the state to see if we can use the district’s banked snow days towards this time."
Hamilton County Department of Education dispatched maintenance crews to the building today to get rid of the water and dry out the building with fans and dehumidifiers.
"The intrusion of the water was a bit more than we first determined. As such, our maintenance and operations folks feel that it is not in the best interest of students to have class tomorrow. We want to be sure that we are providing the best learning environment possible for our students and staff," Clark said.
She added that leaders expect school will resume as usual on Monday morning.
