Chattanooga Police are investigating what Sergeant Jerri Weary describes as "a bizarre incident."
It began at Joe Johnson mental health facility around noon Tuesday. Sgt. Weary says that David Wilkey became agitated and left the Joe Johnson facility on Spring Street. He walked over to 322 Cherokee Blvd where he took the keys of a vehicle parked on the lot.
Stanley Breeden, owner of the vehicle who is an employee of the business, noticed Wilkey in the car and tried to stop him. Wilkey began driving erratically, causing Breeden to fall off of the car. Breeden received minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for observation.
Wilkey then sped off of the parking lot and careened into three parked vehicles in the area. He then crashed at a nearby construction site, where workers were able to subdue Wilkey until police got there.
Wilkey was taken into custody and transported to Erlanger Hospital for evaluation. No charges have yet been filed but are likely to follow Wilkey's evaluation. No one else was injured in the incident.
