What Happens To Detained Workers Kids?

What happens to the families of the workers detained today?
I.C.E. detained 100 workers at the Pilgrim's Plant and now one of the biggest questions is what happens to their kids and the community where they live?
A group of adults stands in front of Eastside Elementary trying to figure out how to help the children of the Pilgrim's Pride employees detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement today.
"Even with the best of planning you don't, you're not always sure that you're not leaving a child behind and in this case we want to make sure that the kids are taken care of and that they don't suffer because of this thing that has happened," Mike Feely says.
And that's why Mike Feely and others showed up to Eastside Elementary - they say that's where many of the detained worker's kids attend school, but right now we don't know who, or how many kids may be affected.
Feely works on the board of La Paz De Dios - an organization that helps hispanics integrate into Chattanooga, Hispanics like Josue Tomis whose family owns a store across from Eastside Elementary and whose nieces attend the school.
"A lot of kids went home today because school already ended and they probably already know their parents are missing," Tomis says.
I.C.E. officials say the illegal workers arrested are given the opportunity to call someone to take care of their kids, and if no one can be contacted, then they coordinate with the Department of Children's services.
And now those are the families that Feely wants to help moving forward.
"An appeal for help for food and other things to help some of families with two or three more mouths to feed at home," Feely says.
And if you'd like to want to La Paz De Dios help those families you can call their office at 1-423-320-3636.
We also want to note that we spoke with the spokeswoman of the school system and she says they took the steps to make sure each child got home today.
