Chattanooga Mocs

The UTC Lady Mocs who won the SoCon regular season softball championship, got upset by UNC-Greensboro in the conference tournament's second round Thursday.  That means a trip to the loser's bracket, which means one more loss and the season's over, which means it'll take 5 straight wins to claim the tournament championship and automatic spot in the NCAA tournament. It's 2 down, 3 to go.  The Lady Mocs stayed alive Friday with a 9-2 win over Appy State, then a 5-2 win over the College of Charleston.  Tiffany Baker had a 2-run homer, Laci Upchurch a three-run shot in that second win.  Brooke Loudermilk was the winning pitcher in both games.Saturday morning at 11:00 it's a rematch with Greensboro.  A win puts the Lady Mocs into the championship round, where they'd have to beat Georgia Southern twice to win the tournament title.
If the Lady Mocs are going to win the SoCon softball tournament, they'll have to come out of the loser's bracket to do it.  After rallying to win yesterday's opener, the Lady Mocs lost to UNC Greensboro 3-1 today.  They'll play Appalachian State in an elimination game Friday morning at 10 o'clock.Tennessee's Lady Vols beat Georgia 5-2 today in the opening round of the SEC softball tournament.  They'll play Florida Friday afternoon..

Mocs spring football is in the books for another season.
Laura Hall, who helped coach Wes Moore's Lady Mocs win yet another Southern Conference championship this past season, will get a chance to play professionally in the WNBA.
Today was draft day in the WNBA, ans as they got to pick number 39,  the San Antonio Silver Stars took UTC forward Alex Anderson, making her the first play in Lady Mocs history, or in the history of the Southern Conference, to be drafted by a WNBA team. The daughter of former NBA standout Willie Anderson, who, ironically, also played in San Antonio, was a two-time SoCon player of the year and tournament MVP.Anderson led the league in scoring and rebounding each of the last two seasons and is fifth all-time in scoring at UTC with 1,732 points....
Chattanooga Mocs football coach Rodney Allison said it was a typical spring practice.  And with that, spring drills are off and running for UTC.  Allison putting his team thru a workout this morning at Finley Stadium.  About a 90 minute workout.  Starting at 6AM.    For the Mocs, it was the first time on the field in some four months.  And Allison says it'll be a very important spring.  The Mocs have a ton of new players, with seven new assistant coaches on Allison's staff.  At the top of the list.....the Mocs have to find a starting quarterback.  The squad worked out this morning in shorts, shoulder pads and helmets.  Allison said his troops were ready to work.  UTC will take Thursday off, and then practice again on Friday, Saturday and Sunday..
