Cubs Sweep Doubleheader From Braves
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The Braves and Cubs got rained out Tuesday night, so they scheduled a day-night doubleheader for Wednesday. The Cubs will have the brooms out Thursday night when they go for the sweep.
Charlie Morton walked two batters in the second inning of Wednesday afternoon's ... they both scored when Geovany Soto lined a double into the right-centerfield gap.
The Cubs took a 4-0 lead on Jim Edmonds two-run homer in the third inning. The Braves scored a run off Jason Marquis in the 4th inning, but the Cubs pretty much put the game on ice when they scored three fifth-inning runs off of Vladimir Nunez.
Edmonds doubled home the first run... Mark DeRosa doubled him home... the other run scored on a groundout.
The National League central division leaders added a run in the 6th inning, Soto put the finishing touches on a 10-2 win with a two-run homer in the 9th.
The two teams hit the field again tonight at 7:15.
The Cubs jumped on Jorge Campillo for four first-inning runs in Wednesday night's game.
Aramis Ramirez singled the first run home... the second scored on a ground out... Kosuke Fukudome's single to left plated two more.
Alfonso Soriano's fourth inning double made it a 5-0 Cubs lead.
Rich Harden, meanwhile, was shutting down the Braves... he allowed only two hits in 5 innings of work.
Four relievers, including Kerry Wood, followed Harden and finished up the 3-hit shutout.
The Cubs tacked on three more 9th inning runs for an 8-0 win.
