Chattanooga Football Club Takes Down Pro Team
The Chattanooga Football Club stepped up into professional level competition this evening, but it didn't hold CFC back.
Under a misting rain, a solid crowd turned out to cheer on the home team against the Wilmington Hammerheads in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
The teams were a bit chippy in the first half, but CFC drew first blood. In the first half, Gustavo Angel Tamayo set up midfielder John Carrier with a pass over the defense. Carrier took care of it from there, calming his dribble down and nailing a goal off his right foot.
The Hammerheads would return fire in the first half knotting the game 1-1 at the break.
Halftime proved to be highly entertaining with the Chattanooga Sports League debuting "bubble soccer." Six people strapped themselves inside huge bubbles, about five feet in circumference. Once inside, the only part of their bodies showing was from the knees down. Then, the game was on. Two small goals were set up and the six people divided into teams of three. Team members chased the ball, bounced into each other and in some cases rolled all the way over, struggling to regain balance back on their feet.
The second half rolled around and the rain picked up. And CFC grew stronger. They scored two more, including one off of a header. The all amateur team bested the professional team 3-1.
CFC is now 2-0 on the season and faces Nashville FC Saturday at 7:30 at Finley Stadium.
