The Cleveland Blue Raiders are the favorites to win the team title in this week's traditional high school wrestling state tournament in Franklin.
They won the dual-meet state championship two weeks ago and took a qualifier to each of the 14 weight classes for this week's tournament, which started Thursday and runs through Saturday.
Five of those 14 are defending state champions... 12 of those 14 won their first-round match.... 8 of those 12 won twice and are in Friday's quarterfinals.
Defending state champions Chris DeBien, Austin Stevison, Austin Oliver and Aaron Lopez all won twice, as did Hayden Hamilton, Josh Hamilton, Ethan West and Koran Kennedy.
Soddy-Daisy has six quarterfinalists... Austin Houser, Jacob Stevens, Tucker Russo, Gage Richmond, Garrett Alexander and Blaike Henry all winning twice.
Walker Valley, Bradley Central and Notre Dame all have three quarterfinalists... Howard and East Ridge two each, Ooltewah one.
In the team standings after day one... Cleveland is first, with a commanding 32-and-a-half point lead over Beech. Soddy-Daisy is in fifth place, Walker Valley is sixth.
