The Mocs played Samford Monday night at the Roundhouse... coach John Shulman's squad hoping to bounce back from a Saturday loss to Charleston at the Roundhouse. The Mocs in last place in the SoCon north division, the Bulldogs in 2nd place.
Samford had their mo-jo working early in this one, the Bulldogs racing out to an 11 point lead.
The Mocs went on a 7-0 run, trimming the deficit to 4, but the Bulldogs surged again and got that 11 point lead back.
Another Mocs run got 'em within 7 by halftime.... they pulled even with a 10-3 run to start the second half.
The Mocs took their first lead since it was 2-0 on a Jared Bryant free throw... a Gee McGee bucket seconds later made it 42-39 Mocs with 12 minutes to go.
A 7-0 Samford run put them on top by 4.... the Mocs tied it up... then McGee hit the Mocs first three pointer of the night to put his team up 49-48 with 7 minutes to go.
The Mocs had their biggest lead of the game, a five-point advantage, with under 3 minutes to go.
Samford pulled even with a minute left. McGee's bucket put the Mocs back on top, Samford tied it with a pair of free throws.
Z Mason missed a shot with 13 seconds left, Samford rebounded. Rajon Kelly's shot at the buzzer wouldn't fall, they went to overtime tied at 55.
The Mocs went up by 3 in the OT and led by 3 with under 10 seconds to go. Kelly missed a long three ball with 3 seconds left... Mocs win, 62-59 in overtime.
The Mocs play again Thursday night, hosting Furman.Mocs Beat Samford in Overtime
