Dontay Hampton and the Chattanooga Mocs were on top of the world, emotionally Thursday night.
The senior guard out of Arts & Sciences rallied the Mocs, who trailed Appalachian State by 19 points in the second half.
Hampton nailed a three-pointer that tied the game and sent it into overtime, where he hit another 3-ball for a career high 22 points.
But with eight seconds left and the Mocs up by a point, Hampton was fouled, and as he slipped, he put out his right hand to break his fall as he headed into the scorer's table.
As it turned out, Hampton broke his right hand on that play. Which might explain why he missed two free throws right after that play.
The Mocs hung on to win the game 91-88, but we learned about the broken hand on Friday.
Hampton, who tore the ACL in his right knee last summer and missed the Mocs first 15 games, was playing in his third game of the season.
The plan is to hold off on surgery, see if Hamption can play through the pain, starting with Saturday night's home game with Western Carolina. If not, he'll likely need to have surgery, which would most likely end his college career.
Lady Mocs Win at Davidson
Kylie Lambert and Kayla Christopher scored 12 points apiede Friday night, leading the Lady Mocs to a 60-56 win at Davidson. Those 2 teams, Elon and Samford are now tied for the SoCon lead.
Alex Black and Faith Dupree scored 11 points each. Dupree was playing in her first game since suffering a torn MCL and sprained knee in a game November 17th. The Lady Mocs, now 13-3 overall, 6-1 in the SoCon, play at Western Carolina Sunday.Mocs Hampton Injured, Lady Mocs Win at Davidson
