UTC's Hollinquest is SoCon Player of the Week
Chattanooga Lady Mocs senior forward Shanara Hollinquest posted her fourth double-double of the season and has been honored as the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week for all games November 24-30.
The Sylacauga, Ala., native scored 26 points and collected 12 rebounds, both season highs, in Chattanooga’s 76-61 win against Kennesaw State in the DoubleTree Classic. The double-double was the nineteenth of her career. Hollinquest shot 11-of-15 from the field and grabbed five offensive boards.
In the Lady Mocs’ 64-59 loss against Villanova in the DoubleTree Classic, Hollinquest nearly posted another double-double with 25 points and nine rebounds. In the two-day tournament she averaged 25.5 points and 10.5 rebounds. For her efforts, she was named to the all-tournament team.
In the conference opener at Samford, Hollinquest scored 17 points to move into 11th place on Chattanooga’s all-time scoring list, but the Lady Mocs fell to the Bulldogs 74-52.
Hollinquest currently leads the league in scoring, averaging 20.1 per game. She also averages a conference-leading four offensive rebounds per game.
Chattanooga continues conference play Saturday when it hosts Furman. Tipoff is set for 5:00. That game is part of a doubleheader... the Mocs host Elon at 7:30 in their SoCon opener.
