'Bama's revamped O-line taking shape

Associated Press

Mike Johnson isn't among those fretting over No. 5 Alabama's offensive line.

The Crimson Tide guard said the three new starters have put in the work to be ready for the opener with Virginia Tech.

'Bama is replacing All-Americans Andre Smith and Antoine

Caldwell, along with right guard Marlon Davis.

Junior college transfer James Carpenter is in line to replace Smith at left tackle. William Vlachos (Vuh-LAY-os), a junior, is taking over at center for Caldwell.

Redshirt freshman Barrett Jones is stepping in at right guard.

The O-line was the anchor of the offense last season, helping the Tide overpower teams with a pounding running game.
