Shana Mayfield named interim owner, JJ Yeley interim driver at Mayfield Motorsports
Comments 0Mayfield Motorsports announcing today that interim ownership of the company will be transferred to Shana Mayfield. She is the wife of suspended NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Jeremy Mayfield. Last week he had a positive drug test, leading to the indefinite suspension both as a driver and as an owner.
"Everybody's been real supportive," Shana Mayfield told NASCAR.com "But the mood's kind of somber, too, because Jeremy's been the leader, he's been the guy that's created this deal and he's the heart and soul of this team. I think a lot of people now are more determined to do a good job and to make him proud -- to step up and take a little more responsibility and fill that void while Jeremy's not there."
Taking over driver duties for Mayfield is JJ Yeley. He has been without a cup ride since the middle of last season, when he was dismissed from his ride at Hall of Fame racing. Yeley is scheduled to drive at the Sprint All Star Open this week and the Coca Cola 600 next week, both at Lowe's Motorspeedway. Yeley's best career finish was in the 2007 Coke 600, where he finished 2nd.
