Braves Beat Phillies, Sweep Series
Atlanta Moves Within 2 Games of NL East Lead
The Braves had the brooms out tonight in Atlanta... hoping to beat the Phillies again and sweep that three-game series from the NL eastern division leaders, who were 9-0 at Turner Field last season.
Javier Vazquez and J.A. Happ threw shutout ball, until the 4th inning. Matt Diaz singled, then Casey Kotchman drilled a Happ pitch... sending it into the terrace level in right field. The third home run of the season for the first-baseman and a 2-0 Braves lead.
Vazquez lost his shutout in the 6th inning. Gregor Blanco lost a Greg Dobbs fly ball in centerfield in the lights. That double got a run home. Another scored on a groundout, tying the game 2-2.
Must be some problems with the lights in centerfield. Shane Victorino lost a Matt Diaz fly ball in the bottom of the 8th. The Diaz double scored Jair Jurrgens, who was pinch-running for Brian McCann, who started the inning with a single.
Garrett Anderson launched a 2-run, pinch hit home run putting the finishing touches on the 5-2 Braves win... and the sweep.
The Phillies and the Marlins now share first place in the NL east. The Mets are a game back, the Braves two back as they head to Washington for a weekend series with the worst team in baseball.
