Lady Mocs Media's Pre-Season Favorites to Win SoCon

Southern Conference Media Relations

Members of the Southern Conference media selected Chattanooga as the preseason favorite to win the SoCon regular season title in 2009-10, reflecting the decision made by the league coaches last week. The Lady Mocs are seeking their 11th consecutive regular season crown.

Chattanooga received 12 of the 15 first place votes and 160 points overall. The Lady Mocs edged second-place Samford by eight points.

The Bulldogs received two first place votes and 152 points overall. College of Charleston came in third with 130 points.

Earning the final first place vote was Western Carolina, which was picked to finish fourth. The Lady Catamounts garnered 118 points overall.

Davidson (104) was selected to finish fifth followed by UNC Greensboro (81) at sixth. Georgia Southern (80) came in at seventh, while Appalachian State (66) was chosen to finish eighth in the league.

Furman (46), Elon (29) and Wofford (24) rounded out the poll, picked to finish ninth, 10th and 11th respectively.

The Southern Conference women's basketball season begins Friday, November 13 with 10 teams taking the court. All 11 teams will begin play during the weekend. The 2010 Southern Conference Tournament will be held March 4-8 in Charlotte, N.C.
