Lady Mocs Headed to Tempe for NCAA Tournament
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Lady Mocs are headed to Tempe, Arizona to play their first-round game in the NCAA women's basketball tournament.
The Southern Conference tournament champions got a number 13 seed, and will take on fourth-seeded Oklahoma State in the Sacramento Region.
Game time is set for 8:11 p.m. (EDT) Saturday, March 20th and will be carried on ESPN2.
This will be the first matchup between Chattanooga and Oklahoma State, who got at-large bid out of the Big 12 Conference.
The Lady Mocs posted a 24-8 record in 2009-10, including a 16-4 mark in Southern Conference action. UTC won an unprecedented 11th consecutive SoCon regular season title in 2010.
The Lady Mocs went 1-3 in the regular season against teams that qualified for the 2010 NCAA Tournament. They defeated Austin Peay and fell to East Tennessee State, Georgia and Kentucky.
This is the Lady Mocs’ 10th trip to the NCAA Tournament and the eighth under head coach Wes Moore. Chattanooga earned the Southern Conference’s automatic bid when it defeated Samford 72-67 in the finals on March 8. It was UTC’s 13th SoCon Tournament title and the eighth under Moore.
Chattanooga has been seeded 13th in the tournament once before in 2002. The Lady Mocs best seeding was a No. 10 in 2004. The Lady Mocs defeated seventh seeded Rutgers in the first round at the McKenzie Arena for their only NCAA win in school history. Chattanooga has been seeded 12th five times since 2001.
Some other first-round matchups include the Tennessee Lady Vols, seeded #1 in the Memphis Region, taking Austin Peay. That game will be in Knoxville Saturday afternoon at 12:16.
Georgia's Lady Bulldogs are seeded fifth in the Sacramento region. They'll take on Tulane in Tempe Saturday night at 10:30, EDT.
